Discovery Sprint: yes to research, no to shopping lists

The secret ingredient
⭐️ Success stories
Outsourcing product development is a strategic decision. But only if the process is structured to make the most of skills, vision and collaboration.
At 20tab, we firmly believe that outsourcing is not just about cost savings. For the past two years, we have been offering our service in the form of 🟣Product Team as a Service (PTaaS): a dedicated and skilled team that does not just execute from the outside, but works side-by-side with clients to build valuable, long-term digital products.
The PTaaS model is still uncommon in Italy, but it is starting to gain ground. We have refined it to best suit each project, guaranteeing maximum flexibility and a tailor-made approach.
Less costs, more skills
Outsourcing your Product Team may seem like a nonsense if you are trying to save money.
But the opposite is true. Working with an external team gives you access to highly specialised and multidisciplinary skills without the cost and time of building them in-house.
A dedicated team ensures continuity and focus on the project, avoids dispersion and ensures decisions are always made with the big picture in mind. Outsourcing allows the team to scale nimbly, bringing in new skills as the project evolves, while allowing the rest of the organisation to focus on the business.
Discovery Sprint: yes to research, no to shopping lists
Every collaboration with 20tab begins with the Discovery Sprint, a crucial step in which we thoroughly analyse the problem to be solved, the business objectives and the operational context. It is not simply a matter of drawing up a list of features, but of exploring together the best solution that will bring real value to the end users.
During the Discovery Sprint, we work side by side with the client, validating hypotheses and defining a concrete development roadmap. This process allows us to immediately align with the client's vision, avoiding wasted time and resources and ensuring that the project starts with a clear and shared direction.
Always outcome-driven, never output-focused
One of the hallmarks of our Product Team as a Service is outcome orientation: we don't just deliver functionality, we work to achieve tangible, measurable results in line with the client's objectives.
This approach allows us to constantly measure the impact of our decisions, not only in the short term, but also in the long term. Each feature is designed to meet a specific market need, with a focus on code quality, user experience and scalability.
The secret ingredient
When it comes to outsourcing, many companies are concerned about working with mercenary teams who will simply follow instructions without any real involvement in the success of the product. As Marty Cagan suggests, the difference between a mercenary and a missionary team is crucial.
At 20tab we aim to build missionary teams: teams that share the client's vision and goals and are committed to the long-term success of the product. Our strength lies in continuous collaboration and mutual trust, as this is the only way to guarantee a product that truly meets the needs of the market.
Success stories: when collaboration leads to innovation
A concrete example is our collaboration with ETS. We have been supporting them for years in the management of their 🟢MIRETS product, using the Product Team as a Service formula.
This approach, and the strong synergy that has been created with the team, has allowed us to take the product mindset even further into the company, with a training and coaching programme that is now enabling the internal team to apply the methodologies and frameworks to other aspects of their work.
This year we broadened our focus to include other tools and business dynamics and undertook an initial discovery period with ETS, which led us to clearly identify objectives, critical issues and opportunities to be validated: work that will continue over the coming months and which we will also be blogging about soon.
Together with them, we've also attended Expo Ferroviaria 2023 to talk about technology and sustainability, topics we both care about, just as well as in WMF - We Make Future 2024 with 🟢NETVAL to talk about innovation. And again with AstraKode, where a joint technology project turned into a technology partnership that today allows us to offer 🟣customised blockchain solutions, combining our expertise to create further value for our customers.
These projects are proof that, even in outsourcing, a missionary team can combine flexibility and specialised know-how with the deep involvement typical of an in-house team.
