Ensure that every digital product has a positive impact on users, the business, and society.
Business purpose goes beyond a company's mission and vision. It lies in the realm of why and value creation, and is directly related to issues of impact and corporate responsibility.
What opens this Disclosure publication is our purpose. We put it on paper years ago.
At 20tab we build custom software, sure, we start with users, driven by numbers, analysis, evidence, true. We plan through roadmaps, we gather feedback, we build and improve the product in an iterative way.
But not just that.
Consulting firms should embrace their clients' needs, embrace their business goals, listen to their users, and then join forces in a synergistic, transparent, and collaborative process that also leads to shared struggles and visions.
Consumers and users are becoming increasingly aware of companies' social, cultural and environmental commitments when purchasing products and services. As shoppers, we evaluate the choices and challenges presented by those who produce what we use in our daily lives. Sometimes we even decide to stop supporting those companies because of how they choose to operate. As businesses, on the other hand, we can only come to terms with and accept, even endorse, the same approach.
We can do this through corporate policy. At 20tab, we have achieved gender parity in the team, we choose to work remotely, we are committed as a team to building a healthy and inclusive work environment.
But we can also do it together with our clients, pursuing projects whose goals and visions we share.
Software and Society
We should learn to look beyond our own backyard to what we can create and support with our skills. This may seem far removed from the big issues and epochal changes, but as a famous motif says, it is from the small things that we can begin to make a difference.
In our experience, we’re proud to have contributed to the 🟢Gran Sasso Science Institute platform Open Data Ricostruzione, presented during the 2019 event commemorating the 10th anniversary of the L'Aquila earthquake.
Thanks to our technical expertise, we have even been able to contribute to the creation of three useful platforms in exceptional and extraordinary situations, such as Open Data Ricostruzione, Open Data L’Aquila or Open Data Covid, which enables to observe and study data related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Indeed, all companies should be mindful of their business goals, but also of the impact their actions have on society and communities.
Sustainability and digitalization
For example, 🟣sustainability and the green economy are on the rise: first and foremost a necessity, but also an opportunity for growth and innovation. Investing in digitalization and the green transition is certainly economically advantageous, thanks to the incentives and funds provided by PNRR and Agenda 2030, but it is also a long-term investment.
In our sector, for example, sustainable coding has been discussed for several years: software is today an increasingly central element for organizations, public and private, but in general for life and society. And it is from code, from algorithms, from software, that we need to start again, given its impact on choices, behaviors and decisions, and therefore its weight in important issues such as environmental, economic and social sustainability.
At the last 🟡Product Management Day, we also talked about sustainability in relation to products and digital: Costanza Mosi gave a very interesting talk on the methodologies we can adopt so that what we design not only has a low environmental impact, but is also a medium for spreading values and good practices related to sustainability.
At 20tab we are very sensitive to these issues and we are careful to adopt conducts that are more and more in line with these issues. We also often have the opportunity to contribute and participate in the challenges of the circular economy and sustainability with some of our clients, sharing with them the development of a product and a small step towards the green transition.
These include CONAI, with whom we developed the 🟢differENTI platform, but also 🟢EasyPol and the development of the 🟢BarCode 4 Environment prototype for GS1 Italy.
Kaleidoscope
It fits in the same vein as Kaleidoscope, the initiative created with the aim of collecting and listening to the opinions and evidence of professionals working in Italian companies.
The ultimate goal: to trace the current contours of our country's technological and entrepreneurial universe and to look to the future. Taking into account, precisely, the same challenges mentioned above.
The collected insights will be part of a final report that we will share at the end of the research, which we are sure will be the start of a new debate and new synergies.
If you have not yet participated in the survey, you can do so now1: it only takes a few minutes.
🟡 C4P - Product Management Day 2024
At Product Management Day 2024 we want to bring concrete content, case studies, best practices, also in relation to the big topics we have been talking about in this newsletter. Not surprisingly, the new topic for papers is Product Management, Ethics & AI.
C4P is still open. The conference will be held in Bologna, on November 13th 2024.
